Ian Hutchinson spent much of his 45\u002Dyear sportswriting career chronicling the game of golf, including 14 years for this newspaper.

“Hutch was very special to us and the Golf Canada family,” said Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum. “He was a really special person in our golf house, and I want to echo all of the condolences to his family and everybody who knew him.”Hutchinson began his career covering sports in 1978 at community newspapers including the Newmarket Era and Mississauga Times. He would go on to work at ScoreGolf Magazine, and as a golf columnist for the Toronto Sun.

Scott MacLeod photoMcKay was inducted into the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame on Tuesday, an honour that again reminded him of the kindness of his friend. McKay explained that Hutchinson loved to nominate people for the Ontario and Canadian Golf Halls of Fame, always anxious to see friends and colleagues succeed. In 2008, ahead of his time, Hutchinson branched off from traditional media and launched Golf News Now, a website and daily newsletter covering all things golf. Three decades after starting his career, his passion for journalism and the game of golf seemed only to grow in this new medium. As his own boss his workload increased, and no press conference was complete until Hutch had his questions answered.
