The Concacaf W Championship final was always destined to be a rematch of the Tokyo Olympic semifinal between Canada and the United States a year ago
“You can’t expect anything, but we are super excited for the game,” said Canada coach Bev Priestman following a 3-0 win against Jamaica in the semifinal Thursday. “You always want to test yourselves and the U.S., are an incredible team. I know they’ll be coming into this game with Tokyo in the back of their mind, they want to put that right and we definitely won’t underestimate them.
Canada and the United States are both 4-0 at this year’s tournament, having scored 12 goals without conceding any. The United States defeated Costa Rica 3-0 in their semifinal Thursday. Only the winner of the tournament earns a berth into the Pairs Olympics. The second and third-place finishers will meet in a playoff in September 2023, for the extra spot from the region in the tournamenttap here to see other videos from our team“I think we’re excited, the U.S., has some new faces and it’s going to be a good measuring stick for us,” said Canada fullback Allysha Chapman, who scored her second international goal in the win against Jamaica.
“I think that’s going to be the strength of both teams,” Priestman said. “Whenever you watch Canada and the U.S., it’s always a good game, it’s always tight, there’s moments where it’s exciting to watch as a fan and I think for both teams to get that sort of a game now, it’s probably come at the perfect time. I think it’ll be what it always is and I can’t wait.”Article content
