Canada’s best and brightest amateur baseball players are set to take part in the Canadian Futures Showcase next week.
After that, there are three days of tournament games, with the top prospects advancing to one final game and a home-run derby on Saturday.
“We started searching for places in Ontario because, geographically, it makes the most sense, with 65-75 per cent of the kids from Ontario,” said T.J. Burton, the Blue Jays Program Manager for Amateur Baseball. The stadium will be dressed up in Blue Jays colours for the occasion, providing as much of a big-league feel as possible.Article content“We’ll be able to brand the stadium so that it feels like a second home of the Blue Jays, similar to what we did with Buffalo and Dunedin during the pandemic.”
“With the Blue Jays touches to the stadium, the kids are going to feel like they’re walking into a big event.” “The top 100 usually separate themselves, but it was real tough for the final ,” Burton said. “It’s a difficult process, but we feel like we make the best decisions. From 100 to 250, it was really close.”
Naylor, the Mississauga native, was also spotted through the showcase and was drafted 12th overall by the San Diego Padres in 2015. He’s now playing for the Cleveland Guardians.
