Weir will be among the big stories this week as the senior birdie\u002Dmachines return for the 10th anniversary edition of the Shaw Charity Classic
“I sent Jack a letter because back then, I guess it was in 1982, there wasn’t a lot of left-handed equipment around and besides Bob Charles, who won the British Open, there really weren’t many lefties in professional golf, at all,” Weir recalled. “So I wrote Jack that letter saying, ‘Hey, I’m 12 years old. I’m still young enough to switch to right-handed.
“I’ve seen it on TV in the past years, before last year, and saw the crowd support and the turnout,” said Weir, who collected eight trophies during his PGA Tour heyday — tied with George Knudson for most by a Canadian — and inspired a generation of golfers from across the Great White North when he was fitted for a Green Jacket in 2003. “I think all of us are excited to play in a place where you get that kind of support and the fans come out to watch us play and watch us compete.
