Last year mineral fuels, including oil and gas, were Canada’s largest single export, valued at US$120 billion — 24 per cent of our total exports. Most nations recognize the critical importance of oil and strive for energy self-sufficiency. Those without it, like Germany and U.K., are facing massive debt to import expensive fuel to sustain their populations and economies.
