BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. — After being lit at Parliament Hill in Ottawa in mid-October, the Canada Games Roly McLenahan Torch has made its way to P.E.I.
The 13 torchbearers met the torch for the Borden-Carleton leg of the Cavendish Farms Torch Relay. Passing the torch from one person to the next, the relay concluded for the day at nearby Amherst Cove Consolidated School.Over the next few months, the torch will visit 17 more communities from one end of the Island to the other.
– Kristin GardinerThe torch relay is being held to usher in the start of the 2023 Canada Winter Games, hosted in P.E.I. The relay began in Ottawa on Oct. 17 and will conclude at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Feb 18. Then, the cauldron will be lit, signalling the start of the Games, which will continue until March 5.The 2023 Canada Winter Games will take place in 10 communities across P.E.I., from Tignish to Three Rivers, as well as some events in Fredericton, N.B. and Halifax, N.S.
