Ottawa—Farm groups have welcomed an announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that Canada will establish an office to increase and diversify agrifood exports to the Indo-Pacific region.
“The Indo-Pacific is home to some of the world’s largest and fast growing markets and represents a significant opportunity for Canada to diversify its agrifood exports and strengthen our economic activities,” Darling said. “Nearly every day I get calls asking about Canadian soybeans, to resolve issues, or to do more promotion of our products in Indo-Pacific markets,” he said. “We’re ready to work arm in arm with our government partners to make today’s modest investment produce results.”
Agriculture Minister Marie-Claire Bibeau said the office will “be able to help remove trade barriers, diversify markets, increase exports, grow our economy and obviously continue to contribute to global food security.”
