Tanzanian giants Simba haven’t given up their pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, although there are question marks over whether they would afford him.
According to the Siya crew sources, Simba pays its coach in the region of $15,000 [±R22,8913] per month, a far cry from what the Mokwena earns at Sundowns. Last year in November, the Siya crew reported that Simba tabled an offer for Mokwena after the departure of coach Didier Gomes but the tactician at the time said that the approach was “flattering”, but he is happy at Sundowns and working on a ‘bigger project’.The Soweto-born coach takes home around half a million per month at Chloorkop, and it has been reported that the Tanzanian side owe one of their previous coaches wages.
Back in April 2021, Sven Vandenbroeck, ex-Simba coach, dragged the club to FIFA over $44,000 owed to him in unpaid bonuses, with the world soccer governing body confirming an investigation into the matter. But the outcome of the probe is unknown.Simba are in the market for a coach and wish to lure Mokwena to replace Pablo Franco Martin, who departed the club after ending the season trophyless for the first time since 2017.
But it remains to be seen if Simba will manage to convince Mokwena to move to Tanzania this time, with two more years still left on his Sundowns deal.
