The next big development in PC technology is GenAI, which promises previously unheard-of levels of productivity and efficiency for enterprises all over the world. We foresee more intelligent data analysis, simpler workflows, and quicker decision-making with AI-enabled PCs. GenAI will impact the future of the PC-human experience, opening up new avenues for development and creativity, much as the arrival of the PC 40 years ago transformed our jobs.
Artificial intelligence has been a part of personal computers for a while, but many users might not be aware of this—functions like voice-to-text conversion, camera focus and light adjustment, and conference call backdrop blurring are just a few examples. These features necessitate a new processor architecture since they use a large amount of processing power.
In the medium term, new architectures with onboard AI processing capabilities will be released in 2019. These architectures will have greater memory, storage, and processing power—next-generation CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, and accelerators—to manage increasingly complicated AI workloads. To bring this new architecture to life, Dell is actively working with industry partners.
