Site east of Prince George plays a vital role in limiting the pace of climate change, says Nature Trust

The goal of $75,000 in donations to complete the purchase of four parcels adjacent to Meteor Lake has been reached, a spokesperson for Nature Trust confirmed on Tuesday.

After originally setting a deadline of November 31 to meet the mark, the deadline was extended by a month. "We are pleased to share that the fundraising has now closed and that the remaining $35k needed to protect the property has been raised," said Alicia Arruda in an email to the Citizen. The properties skirt the northeast and southeast corners of the Meteor Lake wetland-bog, about 100 kilometres east of the city and across the Fraser River from Sinclair Mills.

It is one of the three largest wetlands in the upper Fraser River and a site that plays a vital role in limiting the pace of climate change, according to the organization."An announcement with additional details surrounding this property will be released in the new year and we look forward to sharing it with you," Arruda said.
