Days after announcing the General Election, the Prime Minister arrived for a visit which turned into a PR disaster
As the Prime Minister stood in the pouring rain outside Downing Street last Wednesday to announce that we would be going to the polls on July 4, it didn't take long for the party machines back home to kick into gear with the SDLP 's Claire Hanna appearing to be first out of the traps with her posters which appeared in parts of South Belfast that night.
Days after announcing the election, the Prime Minister arrived in Northern Ireland for a visit which turned out to be a PR disaster for the Conservatives. While visiting the Titanic Quarter, Belfast Live asked the PM if he would be captaining a sinking ship going into this election. A clip of the question went viral gaining more than 4.6 million views on X and was featured in a number of national platforms.
Monday also saw the UUP's Doug Beattie address suggestions of an electoral pact in Fermanagh South Tyrone after TUV leader Jim Allister told the BBC's Sunday Politics that he had discussions with the DUP around putting forward an agreed non-party candidate for the seat which Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew will vacate.
The UUP's Robin Swann stood down as Health Minister on Tuesday and was replaced by Mike Nesbitt as he focuses on running in the election for the party in South Antrim.
