Cameron Bluffs fire now under control, two other Vancouver Island wildfires being held
“Firefighter safety is always a top priority when responding to wildfires, and this fire has sections that are unworkable by firefighters.”
There are 108 firefighters, three helicopters, an incident management team, and four pieces of heavy equipment assigned to the Cameron Bluffs fire.The wildfire west of Sayward, the Newcastle Creek wildfire, remains listed as “being held” and is 230 hectares in size.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.Firefighting crews are working on suppression efforts on 80 per cent of the fire, according to the wildfire service.
“Twenty percent of this fire is burning in extreme slopes and hazardous work conditions including falling debris,”“Their highest priority is to prevent eastward spread of this fire toward the community of Sayward. Crews are developing alternative containment strategies and contingency lines are being planned.”
