Businesses in Komatipoort were busy on Sunday.
Operations are gradually returning to normal at the Lebombo Port of Entry with Mozambique.Maputo Transport Corridor Logistics Taxi Association, just like many business establishments operating in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, is picking up the pieces.Processing of persons and cargo is continuing without glitches at the border post. The border was re-opened on Friday afternoon after discussions between the South African Border Management Authority and their counterpart in Mozambique.
Another traveler says, “It is very cool, we travelled this morning is very calm we didn’t see any problems or they are talking about tomorrow because they were waiting for the reaction from the government based on the last week’s march. We had to contact our relatives and we contacted the border management as well to ask about the situation there.”Maputo Transport Corridor Logistic Chairperson, Joseph Ntamela says they are still counting their losses.
“We don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. We don’t know what would happen in Mozambique. We think the government in Mozambique and our government and the other government like SADC try to mobilize to try to normalize. We lost a lot you know because we load luggage and people inside one taxi is more than R30 000, once movement is not moving to cross the border we lost lot of money.”Retail shop manager, Adriana Jacobs says business is slowly picking up.
“Well it picked up a little bit but it is business as usual. The people look more like they rushing to quickly buying something and get back home, the business is not for sure how it supposed to be. We don’t know what to expect next week talking about this is going be recount of votes in Mozambique, we are against the border here, most of our clients are Mozambicans, all people going on holiday, truck drivers. So, it is our livelihood.
The Border Management Authority has not reported any challenges since they reopened the Lebombo Port of Entry on Friday afternoon.
