The Hoops skipper has got his hands on 21 trophies at the Hoops over the last 10 years as he goes all out for No22 against Rangers.
Churning out appearance after appearance while collecting trophy after trophy as Celtic’s captain. That’s just what Callum McGrergor has been programmed to do. Over the last 10 years, McGregor has got his hands on 21 of them. And at Hampden – where he has never lost a cup final – he’ll be going all out to make it No.22.
McGregor, of course, has taken over where Scott Brown left off. The armband may have been passed on three years ago but the production line hasn’t missed a beat. Three league titles have been piled up since then along with one Scottish Cup and two League Cups. McGregor admitted: “It’s been a great period of success.
“All of that is great, and great to have that experience, but we know come Saturday when the game kicks off it won’t count for much. Then what you do in the game on that day, how we prepare, what we give to the game, that’s what will ultimately decide the outcome. Yes, we have a good template to work from – but we know come Saturday that we have to be on the money and we’ve got to perform.”
And these constant demands mean McGregor has no time to be distracted by what is being said, done or posted on social media by those on the other side of town. He said: “I’m not on social media, so I don’t see it. We can only focus on what we are doing, and I think the minute you take your eye off the ball, either personally or with what is happening inside the club, then you are too busy worrying about what is going on elsewhere.
