Better Buses for Strathclyde is calling on Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) to bring buses back under public control so that they can end the transport 'chaos' across the region and better serve the needs of the community.
Glasgow buses could be brought back under public control in bold new plans to re-nationalise routes across the Strathclyde region.
Better Buses hopes to follow the same route as Greater Manchester who have recently taken back control through a similar campaign with the region's new ‘Bee Network’, which aims to deliver an integrated transport system through a one ticket approach, launching earlier this week. "This has left many people across our region locked out of jobs and opportunities, unable to visit friends or family, or forced to buy cars. We’ve seen a vicious circle of decline ever since our buses were deregulated in 1986.
The campaign has until March 2024 to gather support before SPT will make a decision of the future of transport in the region.
