A Beaumont man who claimed he had “Q clearance” and that World War III was imminent beforepleaded guilty to federal charges, and was sentenced to probation on Monday, March 7.
Federal Judge Timothy J. Kelly for the District of Columbia ordered the newly convicted defendant, Kevin Strong, 45, to serve two years of probation, including 30 days of home detention, according to court documents. He must also pay $500 in restitution and perform 60 hours of community service. Strong had been charged after surrendering to authorities on Jan. 22, 2021, with entering restricted grounds, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. He had agreed to plead guilty to the latter of those four allegations, per the terms of a deal with prosecutors filed Dec. 17, 2021.
He was a self-described follower of “Qanon,” and already the subject of an investigation opened Dec. 30, 2020, six days before a mob intent on decertifying the results of the presidential election stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to a sworn statement from an FBI Agent. A witness told authorities the electronics technician working for the Federal Aviation Administration in San Bernardino was “stockpiling items” and claiming World War III was going to occur on Jan. 6, 2021.
