California is already drenched. Now three ‘atmospheric rivers’ may unload two months worth of rain

Bumper-to-bumper traffic makes its way into downtown Los Angeles as an atmospheric river sagged southward from northern California earlier this year. A similar weather setup is on tap this week. Strong jet stream which has extended east from Asia is lurking over the Pacific and poised to flow further downstream later this week into next week, and bring a lot of late-season precip to the West Coast and energize multiple rounds of #severe #weather across the central U.S. pic.twitter.com/ZXkO2Jeraf

The first of the three will come ashore in northern California at a moderate intensity but with a quick passage. In the Sierra Nevada range, a winter storm warning is in effect through Friday morning, with forecasts calling for snow accumulations of six to 12 inches, with localized amounts up to two feet.
