Gavin Newsom California fast food restaurants are cutting back on staff in advance of a state law upping the minimum wage to $20 per hour, according to theThe law, which was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2023, goes into effect next month.
Franchisees for Pizza Hut and Round Table Pizza also said they plan to drop 1,280 delivery drivers, the WSJ reports. Other chains are testing out automation in their operation. Chicken chain El Pollo Loco reportedly told investors it would involve robots in its salsa making. Jack in the Box, which has nearly 1,000 California locations, will reportedly test fryer robots and automated drink dispensers.
