Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler didn’t answer SFGATE questions about Bob Menendez, who’s indicted on charges including bribery and acting as a foreign agent.
On Thursday, Sen. Bob Menendez was charged with acting as an unregistered foreign agent for the Egyptian government. It was the latest federal indictment filed against Menendez, who refused to resign last month after he was charged with bribery, fraud and extortion.
requests for comment about whether Menendez should resign. first reached out to Padilla’s office on Sept. 25, and again on Sept. 26, and did not hear back. sent another follow-up Thursday, after Menendez’s latest indictment, and again didn’t receive a response. Butler took office on Oct. 3, after the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Repeated requests for comment made to Butler’s spokespeople via email and phone on Thursday and Friday went unreturned. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the first Democratic Party senator to call on Menendez to step down last month.
