Calif. musician David Ryan Harris petitions the government to require IDs for child travelers after he was stopped by an airline for suspected child trafficking

A California musician is petitioning the government to require identification for children on flights after he was stopped by the airline for suspected child trafficking. On Sept. 15, singer-songwriter David Ryan Harris flew on an early morning American Airlines flight from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport to LAX with his two mixed-race children. But the family was in for a surprise when they were met at the top of the jetway by an American Airlines employee and four police officers.

“A member of our team has reached out to the customer to learn more about their experience and address their concerns.” The American Airlines website says that employees are trained to “recognize the signs of human trafficking and act if they suspect human trafficking.” The airline has since apologized to Harris for the incident.
