Calgary to launch officer exchange with Edmonton Police Service yyc yeg
Staff Sgt. Lee Dunbar with the CPS beats and bikes team said that following a memorandum of understanding, the two services have agreed to each send two members to the other community. “Obviously, with the sheriffs being up north right now, deployed to assist Edmonton, we want to see how that’s working for them and maybe learn some potential things that they’ve experienced,” he said.Dunbar said the Edmonton service has expressed an interest in seeing how the CPS operates alongside social organizations to work with the city’s vulnerable populations.Article content
“They kind of want to see what we’re doing, and what we have in place with using our external partners like the teams and stuff like that, where other places like Winnipeg, for example, don’t have anything like this in place whatsoever.” Dunbar described the exchanges as a sort of ride-along, where the observing officers can witness a normal shift and ask questions.
