Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby broadcasts returning to radio airwaves yyc
Hebson continued, “In 2022 we were back to a full race schedule after the COVID-19 pandemic, however, we lost some key sponsorship related to our broadcasts and we had to rebuild. The airtime, broadcast team, rights fees and all other fees are the responsibility of the organization hosting the broadcasts, so our first goal is to cover those costs and that comes from the support our advertisers.”
The show will have a bit of a different feel to it than regular in-season WPCA broadcasts due to colour commentator Billy Melville and host Arnie Jackson working different jobs during the 10-day Stampede. In addition, Darby Rae Crouch will be conducting interviews at the barns to put together features to run during the broadcasts.
When Melville first took on the job of joining the CBC broadcast in 2013, one of his producers came up with the idea of him hopping into the wagons.
