Calgary forecast shows cold weekend after heavy Friday snowfall yyc
Environment Canada is forecasting an overnight Saturday low of -20 C with gusting winds and a windchill of -31 C. Sunday’s forecast is predicting a mix of sun and cloud with lows of -17 C and the windchill feeling like -32 in the morning. That dumping of white weather lead to issues across the city with Calgary police reporting approximately 330 vehicle accidents, including 36 that resulted in injuries. The roads were a little quieter on Saturday morning with 34 accidents being reported to police as of 10 a.m.Article content North of the city, RCMP from Airdrie and Didsbury responded to a collision on Highway 2 near Carstairs involving 25 to 30 vehicles that closed lanes in both directions early in the afternoon. Photos posted online show multiple vehicles stopped on the road with others, including semi-trucks, stopped in ditches on the side of the road.
Police issued an update shortly before 10 p.m. stating the road had been opened but warned conditions remained icy. Alberta 511 showed there weren’t any closures in the area Saturday morning but that conditions remained icy.Share this article in your social network
