Leela Aheer blames her “mommy genes” for putting her face to face with an angry bull at the Strathmore Stampede this weekend
for Calgary-Strathmore and a UCP leadership candidate, was participating in
the running of the bulls event at the 56th annual Strathmore Stampede on Saturday when a man was charged and struck by a bull. As the man was being trampled, Aheer hopped the fence to try to push the bull off of him, a move she attributes to maternal instinct. “Believe me when I tell you, it was not on my bucket list ever to jump in front of a bull — ever,” she said. “If I hadn’t seen the video with my own eyes, I would have been questioning if I’d actually done it or not.”
A clip of the incident was later posted to Twitter by Aheer’s campaign manager. The footage shows Aheer attempting to push the bull as other attendees jump in, before she helps the man back over the fence. “He’s a farm kid, so he sort of tucked in close so he didn’t get stomped on quite as badly as we were thinking he did,” Aheer said, adding she and the bull also made it out without any significant injuries. “He was pretty scraped up, he got dragged a lot so he had some good rashes across his back and his shoulders. But he was at the cabaret that night, partying with his friends, so he’s fine.”Article contentYesterday she grabbed a bull. Jumped right in front of it.
