Having already ensured passage to the quarter-finals, Sundowns have also managed to win the group as they boast four wins, no defeats and a draw from five matches.
Sundowns were comprehensive victors in their last match before the International break when they hammered Al-Hilal Omdurman 4-2 and haven’t lost in the Champions League since May last year. Merrikh, who sit at the bottom of the group with four points and just one win from their five matches played, were beaten 3-1 by Ahly in their last match.
However, the Sudanese champions were winners against Al Shorta in the domestic league and thereafter a 1-1 draw with Alamal Atbara followed. It is going to be the second engagement between the Brazilians and Merrikh this season after playing to a goalless draw in February.
