Cape Town City start their maiden CAF Champions League journey against Congolese club Otoho d’Oyo in the first preliminary round at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
The Citizens’ participation in the Champions League comes on the back of a second-place finish in the DStv Premiership last season. Eric Tinkler’s men beat the likes of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to this position and earned their first-ever entry amongst the elite of African club football.
City have had an extremely busy start to the season and head into this match with a goalless draw on Tuesday against Sekhukhune United in the Premiership. Otoho have played South African opposition before in Mamelodi Sundowns and they lost 5-2 over two legs back in 2019, but this will be their first-ever clash against the Citizens.
