Over a quarter of shoppers say they have been noticing products getting smaller more than once
The Brunch bars, which come in multipacks of five, have seen a reduction from 32g per bar to 28g that's a 12.5% decrease, as reported by The Grocer. These smaller bars will appear in packs of Raisin, Peanut, Choc Chip, and Bournville Choc Chip varieties, yet the price for the multipacks will stay fixed at £1.35.
However, while the Brunch Light multipacks haven't been reduced in size, their price has risen by 10p. A spokesperson for Mondelez, Cadbury's parent company, explained that they've made "considered changes to the recommended retail price alongside small weight reductions across our core Brunch Bars".This is due to "continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and sugar...
Barclays research indicates that 80% of shoppers have noticed products shrinking in size on multiple occasions. Moreover, over a quarter of consumers have observed this trend repeatedly. Research highlights that since 2014, some digestive biscuits have become 28% smaller, yet their price has soared by 129%, marking them as one of the most impacted items. Certain crisp brands have reduced the contents of their multipacks by as much as 17%, while maintaining the same prices.
Some breakfast cereal boxes have seen their contents cut by up to 24%.
