Operation Rescue New Lights now has the Bungie stamp of approval
Dares launched way back in December, but I think I gave it a bit of a signal boost after people kept telling me it was happening and I wrote a thing on it. I’ll credit a redditor,, who I first saw come up with the “rescue” concept, which has blossomed into an entire movement.
What’s happening now, however, is that in certain regions there are now so many people who have been made aware of this and are trying to rescue New Lights that you might have a game where you’re not soloing with five New Lights, but instead your Dare is 4, 5 or even hilariously, 6 rescuers all showing up to help. But hey, even if it’s five people leading one person to victory, that’s still helping. If it’s all six of you? That’s just…a normal Dares of Eternity run.
Some people are using this opportunity to blast Bungie about the “new player experience” but I mean, come on. While I agree that part of the game needs work, this has turned into a very fun community moment and I’d focus on the positive aspects of this, that players are volunteering to help with runs that can be 15-40 minute slogs, just so the New Lights aren’t stuck or frightened away.
We will see if there’s any info on the coming fix in This Week at Bungie later today. I suppose one solution is just to drop the power level all the way down to 1100 so they at least have more of a chance, but there would still be champions to deal with. They probably just should not auto-load people into activities, and this is not the first time this has happened either. But it is the first time the community has been able to come together to “rescue” players, which has been really fun to see.
