Sometimes it works out and some times it doesn’t, in other words, though the more points given the tougher it is.
The latter wagering truism was in effect in the Bills latest effort as the spread wasn’t even a factor on Sunday when the Jets scored the underdog ‘W’ of the week. Not only did Gang Green cover, they knocked off the visiting Bills outright with a 20-17 win to vault into the AFC East race. It also made it back-to-back weeks Buffalo failed to cash as double-digit favourites.
On one hand, that last-minute drive by Tom Brady for a game-winning Bucs TD was tough to swallow for the Rams bettors, who saw their team lose 16-13 as 2.5 point underdogs. On the other, when your team fails to score a point – and even record a first down – in the fourth quarter, you get what you paid for.
Home teams were a solid 6-1-1 against the spread in the early Sunday starts and they can thank the underdogs, who went 4-1-1, for that. Again from those eight early games, only two went “over” the total – the Panthers and Bengals as well as the Dolphins-Bears.
