Municipalities NL celebrates increased operating grants, NLTA criticizes ‘inadequate status quo’
Progressive Conservative Interim Leader David Brazil. -Juanita Mercer/SaltWire NetworkST. JOHN'S, N.L. — There was mixed reaction to the province’s 2023 budget on Thursday, March 23.
Some groups, like Municipalities NL, were pleased to receive funds they advocated for, while others, such as the teachers’ union, thought the budget maintained an inadequate status quo.“The best way you can help with the cost of living and put money in people's pockets is lower taxes. There's no initiative here to lower taxes for people, put more money in their pockets, that also stimulates the economy because that gets fed back in services in the province.
