Following Pirates’ 2-0 win over Cape Town City on the weekend in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final to advance 3-1 on aggregate, Riveiro has guided the Soweto giants into their third successive final in the prestigious competition, having won the previous editions.The Buccaneers have also won both the previous editions of the Nedbank Cup in the last two seasons as the team has enjoyed form and consistency in cup competitions since the Spanish tactician’s arrival in 2022.
Having signed a three-year contract on his arrival as an unknown two years ago, Riveiro’s cup success has made him the darling of Bucs’ faithful and a cup king tag, and former Pirates striker James Mothibi, who is also the founder of the James Mothibi Sports Development Academy in the Northern Cape, believes that the Spaniard deserves to stay longer to continue with his progress.
“This is a simple one for me to predict, Orlando Pirates are going to give a lot of teams a tough time this season. Why am I saying this? When the coach first arrived at the club, most of the supporters didn’t have hope and belief in him, but he has done so well during his tenure to establish himself in South African football. Our coach is a very quiet person who believes in action and not in the negative statements from the media or the supporters.
