UPDATE: Crews continue to battle a brush fire in the hills east of San Jose, where at least 66 acres have burned, fire officials say.
The Clayton Fire ignited at around 2:30 p.m. in the area of Clayton Road and Via De La Vista, according to Cal Fire.
Structures were threatened for some time, and about 30 homes around 3 Springs Road off Mount Hamilton Road were issued an evacuation warning. "Make sure you’re aware there’s going to be a lot of moving equipment in and out of the area, keep your head on a swivel and try to be safe," said Chelsea Burkett of Cal Fire Santa Clara.Sign up for NBC Bay Area’s Housing Deconstructed newsletter.Many residents said they were worried about their animals. Raymundo Areola said he left work as soon as he heard to check on his horse who was boarded there.
"Thanks to the firefighters he’s alive, and I’m just thanking them for being here for them," he said.
