After being pilloried last week, Bruno Fernandes is due praise this week. But the criticism was devoid of context.
Bruno Fernandes was the matchwinner for Manchester United at the weekend after a week where he was pathetically pilloried.
“Look at me,” Sanders says in the video. “What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me? Your opinion of me is not the opinion that I have of myself. You ain’t make me, so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me, so you can’t kill me." Fernandes also miscued an uncomplicated free header with the game goalless. Any notion Fernandes was dodging responsibility was false; he accepted accountability for his wastefulness in a separate interview.
There were zero positives from the second half at Tottenham, where United were a parody of the club's infamous David Moyes tweet: they needed to improve in a number of areas, including passing, creating chances and defending. Usually, the 'English media bias' accusation is complete claptrap. With Fernandes, there is a sense some ridiculously think he has compromised England's preparation for the European Championship by ousting Harry Maguire as skipper. Never mind that Maguire passed on the chance to join unbeaten West Ham United a fortnight ago.
