An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Ottawa Friday with more bitter temperatures expected overnight.

“This cold is very hard on many people,” the health unit said Friday morning. “If you see someone who needs to get out of the cold, you can call 311 .”OC Transpo said LRT trains may run at reduced speeds during certain periods of the day if crews need to do “enhanced cold weather inspections.” Trains will operate at lower speeds when the temperature drops below -35 C, the transit service said.
For the bus fleet, OC Transpo said it parked as many vehicles inside as possible, equipped those outside with block heaters and have extra resources on standby if any of their batteries need a boost.Friday is expected to be mainly sunny a high of -25 C and a northwest wind at 30 km/h gusting to 50. Friday night is expected to dip to -31 with a wind chill near -43. A northwest wind at 20 km/h is expected to become light late Friday evening.
Saturday is expected to reach -14 C with a 40 per cent chance of flurries late in the afternoon.
