LIVE NOW: Brothers’ goal in Saanich bank shootout was to kill police, didn’t expect to survive
Investigators were on scene of the attempted bank robbery on July 1, 2022.
The investigation concluded that Cowichan-area brothers Matthew and Isaac Auchterlonie acted alone in both the planning and execution of the robbery and police confrontation. Upon entering the bank, the brothers knew they would be killed, and evidence shows they had plans to use additional firearms and explosives had they survived the initial police interaction. Suspects wanted to inflict more damage, but police actions saved lives.Both brothers held strong anti-government and anti-police views.
