Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says the influx of foreign goalkeepers in the Premier Soccer League is limiting his choices when it comes to picking his squad.Broos has repeatedly picked Kaizer Chiefs’ Bruce Bvuma although he hardly gets game time at club level. Speaking to SAfm’s Thabiso Mosia this week, Broos explained how difficult it is for him to pick keepers.
“I picked Bvuma even though he’s not playing in his team because there are not enough South African goalkeepers in the PSL. Two weeks ago, I watched matches, there were only three local keepers playing in all the clubs , only three,” he said. Of the 16 DStv Premiership teams only six use local keepers but not regularly. At Orlando Pirates, for an example, Siyabonga Mpontshane is playing because Richard Ofori of Ghanain descent is injured.
“So, you need to start and look for keepers. But if it goes on like this, I’ll have to change Bvuma. Maybe tomorrow I’ll need him and that means I have to put on a keeper who’s not playing. “But Bvuma has been with us a few times. I don’t have complaints about him. He’s a young and quality keeper and works well in training. But I see his coach decides differently,” added Broos.
