Today the NSW District court heard Bronson Xerri received a message stating, "your brother is dead," during the sentence hearing for his sibling Troy Xerri who is facing up to 10 years' jail over the fatal crash.
Joanne Duke, 63, was killed driving to work when Xerri crossed onto the wrong side of Blaxland Road at Eastwood and smashed his ute into her Mazda hatchback.Suspended NRL star Bronson Xerri was allegedly sent a threatening message after his brother Troy killed a mother-of-three while driving dangerously at Eastwood in 2019.
Xerri, who remains in custody, sat in the dock as he listened to five of Ms Duke's family members read victim impact statements that lasted for several hours. Ms Duke's husband Michael Duke told the court he was completely lost without his wife and still places posies at the crash site at least three times a week.
"I just loved to be with this woman every moment of every day I will never be the same again," he said.Her son Zach Duke told the court of the ongoing pain and sadness he lived with, especially knowing his mother would never meet her first grandchild.Her son Noah told the court, "I just loved to be with this woman every moment of every day I will never be the same again."
