Criminal harassment, a crime category that includes stalking, more than doubled in Brockville in the first half of the year, city police crime statistics show.

“There’s a possibility that some of the criminal harassment charges are related to domestic relationships,” said Jodoin. That increase, said the chief, is a bit easier to explain. He attributed it to the ongoing problem of drug addiction, noting many of those cases involve petty thefts as perpetrators seek quick ways to make money to finance their drug habits.Actual drug offences, meanwhile, rose only slightly in the same period, from 27 last year to 29.
