Broadway Across Canada new season to include major New York hits yycarts
The season opens in November with Hadestown, the 2019 winner of eight Tony Awards including best musical as well as a Grammy for best musical theatre album. Hadestown is a modern retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, which has a young lover travelling to Hades to rescue his beloved. In this case, Orpheus is a singer whose beloved Eurydice is working in a hellish factory just to survive.
In January 2024, Tina Fey’s Mean Girls: The Musical will take audiences back to high school and the cliques that new girl Cady must manoeuvre to survive. Mean Girls: The Musical is based on the 2004 film Fey wrote that starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and introduced audiences to a young Amanda Seyfried. It was one of that year’s biggest box office hits and Fey was approached in 2013 to turn it into a stage musical which eventually opened on Broadway in 2018.
