The son of a 79-year-old Hamas-held hostage has finally received a sign of life from his father. Chaim Peri was captured the night of the October 7th Hamas attack, after saving his wife, hiding her behind a sofa, and giving himself up instead. Veuer’s Maria Mercedes Galuppo has the story.
“Bright Key fits in with our vision and mission here at Faine,” Tina Garst, principal of Jerry Lee Faine Elementary, said. “ I am so looking forward to the partnership we’re going to build throughout this year and the years to come. It’s going to help our children to be successful not only academically but socially and emotionally.”
People are also reading… A pilot program was launched eight years ago at Highlands and Selma Street Elementary Schools. From there, Bright Key expanded to Heard and Morris Slingluff Elementary Schools in 2021 after showing success during its pilot years. In October of this year, the school system announced the program would be offered at Faine and Girard Intermediate, bringing the total number of Bright Key schools in the district to six.
Shepard said the Bright Key initiative is stakeholder-driven as parents and faculty at each school vote on whether to bring the program there. If a green light is given, a resource coordinator is hired to listen to stakeholders, form partnerships in the community, and facilitate programs stakeholders want to see at their schools.
Edwards, a Faine Elementary graduate, is grateful to come back and provide support for students who may not have that outside of the classroom.
