Snitker's willingness to stick with Bryce Elder and his delay in mobilizing the bullpen were gambles that backfired and proved costly.
PHILADELPHIA — There’s a thing about gambling. Even if you have a “system,” even if you believe you’ve spotted flaws in point spreads or you’re smarter than everybody at the poker table or you find the one slot machine that keeps paying off, there’s one thing you absolutely should not do: KEEP GOING ALL IN WITH YOUR WINNINGS. Advertisement I don’t know what manager Brian Snitker was thinking Wednesday night.
Wait a minute. Snitker also attributed ’s two-game struggles to the Braves’ pre-NLDS layoff, adding, “As much as we did to try and re-create the game situation , it’s not the same.” He can’t have it both ways. Elder was great for two innings. He retired the first six batters, striking out four. But it was a mistake to get drunk in that, given the backdrop of Elder’s recent resume. Things change quickly in baseball, especially playoff games. The Braves should know that.
