Former Manchester City manager Brian Horton has an important message he wants to get out ahead of a game between two of his former clubs

At 74, Brian Horton feels fit enough to be on the pitch when two of his former clubs face off at the Etihad on Saturday.

With his mind made up on how to approach it, the only remaining question was whether to make news of his illness public. That answer was a no until he bumped into Mick Harford at the start of this season. "I thought about it, spoke to the kids and my wife and decided that yes it's good to put it out and spread the awareness for people to go and get tested. Two of my big mates who are massive Man City fans straight away said they were going to get tested.

City contributed to Horton's 2,000 games in football and it is striking that he maintains such a good relationship with fans, as someone who played against them for Luton when they suffered a painful relegation from the top flight in 1983, before managing them during a turbulent time between 1993 and 1995 when the team was again sliding towards relegation and there was a toxic takeover battle.
