Free State police have rearrested a prisoner who escaped while in hospital for treatment.

According to departmental spokesperson Motalatale Modiba, the latest person to succumb to their injuries is a health worker. Four people were initially reported missing, and two of them have now been confirmed dead. The 32-year-old man was taken into custody after 18 people died when gas leaked from the truck he was driving and exploded on 24 December.The media waiting at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday was told by an official from the National Prosecuting Authority that there was no case against the driver as provincial police said there was not enough evidence against him.
