A shooting near Times Square on Thursday evening left a man fighting for his life, according to preliminary police reports.
While information surrounding the incident is still vague, police are reporting that a 22-year-old man was shot in the right side of his chest on West 43rd Street and 8th Avenue at about 5:37 p.m. on Feb. 9. The gunman apparently mortality wounded the victim with a single bullet wound. However, the victim attempted to flee, making it one block before collapsing near Chick-fil-A resident. EMS repeatedly attempted to revive the man at the scene with CPR, according to police.
“I thought it was an OD because there are people doing drugs around here all the time, but a police officer told me it was not an OD,” the man said, stating that he feels empathy for the NYPD amidst the spate of shootings in the Big Apple. “He looked dead—he was lying there lifeless, and the cops or paramedics were trying to bring him back to life.”Photo by Dean Moses
Law enforcement sources said the unidentified man was rushed to a nearby Mount Sini West hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, but latter succumbed to his wound. The bustling tourist hub was swarmed with police officials during the evening as they investigated and recovered a single shell casing. Police say they are combing through surveillance footage for leads. The victim was not a tourist, a source close to the investigation said.Police at the scene of the shooting.
