BREAKING: Mandisa Maya appointed to succeed Raymond Zondo as chief justice

Maya was the only candidate in the running to replace Zondo as leader of the ConCourt, making Ramaphosa's decision a straightforward one.

Deputy Chief Justice Mandisa Maya will officially take over from incumbent Raymond Zondo as chief justice when the latter’s terms ends on 31 August 2024, becoming the first black woman to lead the Constitutional Court .

“The appointment follows the President’s consultation, in accordance with Constitutional prescripts, with the Judicial Service Commission and the leaders of political parties represented in the National Assembly,” the Presidency’s statement said.Mandisa Maya and Raymond Zondo.
