Rubiales lifted five Spain players, hugged every one, and gave many of them kisses, including Hermoso on the lips, after the World Cup final
Jenni was the one who lifted me up.”In response, the RFEF published an extraordinary statement, dedicating the majority of its 825 words to explaining in detail that, in the federation’s opinion, it was Hermoso who picked up Rubiales.
Then, unlike with the other players, Rubiales takes the back of Hermoso’s head in both hands as the two exchange words:According to Rubiales, he said: “I told her to ‘Forget about the penalty ’ and I said to her, ‘A little peck?’, and she said, ‘OK’.” “It was a spontaneous kiss,” Rubiales added. “Mutual, euphoric and consensual. That’s the key.” He also referred to it as a “consensual peck”.
Hermoso later clarified in her own personal statement: “The situation left me in shock because of the context of the celebration, and with the time passed, and those initial feelings being able to sink, I feel the need to denounce this as I feel that no one, in no workspace, sporting or social, should be a victim to this time of unconsensual behaviour.
