Fraud-charged SAFA boss Danny Jordaan has been granted R20 000 bail, keeps passport to travel for Bafana Bafana games.
Jordaan appeared alongside his two co-accused in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Wednesday, 13 November, for alleged R1.3 million fraud and theft. Earlier on Wednesday, Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said warrants had been issued for the arrest of Jordaan, another SAFA executive, and a 46-year-old businessman following an intensive investigation by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Johannesburg into allegations of R1.
“The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation charged with probing the allegations executed search seizure warrants, 8 March 2024 at the South African Football Association’s office where an assortment of electronic gadgets and files were seized for further investigation, thus leading to the arrest,” Mogale explained.
DA spokesperson on Sport, Arts, and Culture Joe McGluwa said Jordaan and SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronie Hluyo had treated the association’s finances as their checkbooks, a gross abuse of trust and responsibility. “We believe that Jordaan and Hluyo’s actions have damaged the integrity of SAFA and eroded public trust in South African football. Their alleged misconduct warrants immediate action to restore confidence in SAFA’s leadership. The DA calls for their removal to ensure that SAFA can begin rebuilding itself on a transparency and ethical management foundation,” McGluwa added. The Springboks have an average record at best at the home of English rugby, Twickenham in London.
