Suella Braverman has been pictured hysterically laughing while on a tour of the estate for deported asylum seekers in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali
The site has been designed to house a mix of asylum seekers deported from the UK and local Rwandans.
The charity called on the Government to build homes for refugees in the UK to move them out of “inadequate accommodation” like hotels rather than “spending money to breach international laws”.nearly a year since former home secretary Priti Patel signed the deal and handed an initial £120m to Rwanda.but ministers have insisted that it will be going ahead.
He said: “To see the Home Secretary giddy with glee at the thought of these immoral policies is particularly hard to stomach when we’ve witnessed firsthand the damage this policy has already caused to peoples’ lives even before any flights have taken off. William Gomes, a former asylum seeker in the UK, said the insensitivity of Ms Braverman’s comments is “difficult to fathom” from a high-ranking official.
She said years of efforts to build trust between the authorities and survivors of modern slavery have been “completely undermined” by Ms Braverman’s message that anyone in the UK illegally risks being deported if they come forward.Labour MP Diane AbbottShe wrote: “Suella Braverman in Rwanda having a good laugh about all the asylum seekers that she is going to dump there.”
