She wanted to give the soup kitchen a boost and to build a nursery school closer to the children’s homes so that they do not have to walk 2km to the primary school in townIf there is one thing you often hear the residents of small towns say, it is “everyone knows everyone”.
It’s a dusty little town with no large businesses – only general dealers and spaza shops. The town does not have a bank. Christo Slambee, a local councillor, said: “Brandvlei is wonderful. Loving people. People who still have respect for each other. People who care. Everyone knows everyone in this town. So, that is Brandvlei.”
But, because it was far, many toddlers did not go to school and missed out on this important year of the foundation phase. This time Leah and Lottoland travel even further and with bigger budgets to help communities spruce up their towns, said Haywood. Communities have six weeks to make the most of the money.
