At 34, he is the youngest member of the City Council, and becomes only the second person to hold the 7th Ward position in more than 32 years.

Mayor Richard Irvin appointed Tolliver after interviewing 14 applicants for the position. He narrowed that down to seven candidates, and again to three, before choosing Tolliver.“It’s no secret that this has been a long process,” Irvin said this week. “This was no easy decision.”

Brandon Tolliver, who was confirmed Tuesday night as the new Aurora City Council member from the 7th Ward, holds a picture of former Ald. Scheketa Hart-Burns, the person he is replacing on the council. Hart-Burns died unexpectedly June 19. Born and raised on Aurora’s West Side, Tolliver attended West Aurora schools and graduated from West Aurora High School.As a youth, Tolliver was involved in several Aurora-based youth programs, including IMSA summer initiatives, the Boys II Men mentoring group and the Voices for Excellence community youth choir.
